Matthew D. Zimmelman, Esq. New York Born and Raised.
Matthew D. Zimmelman grew up on Long Island and after periods of living in Manhattan, he returned to Long Island. Mr. Zimmelman graduated college with a degree in economics and a minor in business. Prior to law school, he worked as a real estate agent and at an accounting and business consulting firm. While in law school, he continued this work before starting an internship at a real estate law firm. He handled real estate transactions, representing purchasers, sellers, and lenders. With the recession starting, he then shifted his focus to consumer bankruptcy where he was mentored by an experienced attorney in Manhattan.
Mr. Zimmelman spent more than ten years working at several bankruptcy and foreclosure defense firms on Long Island and in New York City. After only one year practicing bankruptcy law and demonstrating a strong grasp of the subject matter, he was quickly promoted to managing attorney at that firm. While he has assisted thousands with bankruptcy filings, Mr. Zimmelman prides himself on the individuals and small businesses he worked with to help avoid filing for bankruptcy relief. His accounting and real estate experience proved to be extremely valuable in the areas of debt relief, bankruptcy, and foreclosure defense.
In addition to practicing law, Mr. Zimmelman is an active real estate broker. When not working, he enjoys spending time with his wife and son, cooking, skiing, and cycling. Since the start of the pandemic, he’s added woodworking to his hobbies.
